As you work to inform your contacts of your new email address and update your account profiles on various sites, it may become helpful to quickly identify emails that were sent to your previous address. The following rule will automatically tag messages sent to your old address.
Note: This rule will not flag emails that were sent to your address via Blind Carbon Copy (BCC), which is common for marketing/mass emails and some mailing lists.
- In the Outlook Web App, click on the icon in the upper-right, then click on View all Outlook settings at the bottom of the pane that opens.
- Click on Mail (if not active), then Rules in the left menu of the window that opens, then click on + Add new rule.
- Give your rule a descriptive name. (1)
- Add a condition choosing Message header includes from the drop-down list and adding your old email address to the value box. (2)
- Add an action choosing Categorize from the drop-down list and selecting a descriptive category. (3)
- You can add a new category from this screen by clicking into the value box and choosing New Category, typing in a name and choosing a color.
- Uncheck the box for Stop processing more rules. (4)
- Do not check the box for Run rule now. (5)
- Click Save (6)
- New emails will now have a tag with your category when you receive them.
