Eduroam is an international roaming service for users in research, higher education and further education. It provides researchers, teachers and students easy and secure network access when visiting an institution other than their own.

People from other eduroam compatible educational institutions are able to log into WMed's eduroam environment using their home school's login criteria. Conversely WMed faculty, staff, and students are able to log into the wireless eduroam networks at other schools using their WMed user ID and password.

By joining the eduroam service as a user you shall be deemed to accept these conditions of use:

  • When using the eduroam service, you shall always comply with local laws that regulate the use of the service.
  • You shall not use the eduroam service for any unlawful purpose and not (attempt to) breach or circumvent any administrative or security controls.
  • You shall respect intellectual property and confidentiality agreements.
  • You shall protect your access credentials (e.g. private keys or passwords).
  • Use of the eduroam service is at your own risk. There is no guarantee that the service will be available at any time or that it will suit any purpose.
  • Logged information is used for administrative, operational, accounting, monitoring and security purposes only.  The logged information may be disclosed under lawful order to law enforcement or other entities.
  • The access-granting bodies and Resource Providers are entitled to regulate, suspend or terminate your access, within their domain of authority, and you shall immediately comply with their instructions.
  • You are liable for the consequences of you violating any of these conditions of use.

Visit the eduroam website for a map of institutions participating in eduroam.

To encrypt email:

As of now, email encryption is not enterprise wide.  A user must be in the Zix-gateway users security group in O365.  There is a cost associated with using Zix for email encryption.  As of now only Research, and Epidemiology and Biostatistics departments are eligible.  Only a O365 administrator is allowed to place a user in the Zix-gateway users group.

  1. All outgoing email (meaning it leaves the @med.wmich.edu domain) will be scanned by the encryption engine.  If it triggers a rule requiring encryption, the message will be encrypted.  If the recipient's domain uses the same company for encryption (ZixCorp) they will receive the message directly to their inbox.  If the recipient's domain does not use ZixCorp, they will receive a message telling them to go pick up the email from a ZixCorp website.  Some recipients may be confused by this and may need additional support getting the message.
  2. If you would like to force a message to be encrypted, simply adding the word "confidential" (the quote marks are not necessary) to the subject line, this will cause the encryption engine to encrypt regardless of the message contents.
  3. Some recipient domains (especially very strict listserv-style mailing lists) may reject encrypted messages.  Ideally this will be corrected between the sender and the recipient.  If you are unable to come to a resolution, please contact WMed Support and we will either work with the recipient's IT group and/or disable the encryption engine when communicating with that domain/listserv.

Currently, the environmental monitoring system Smart-Vue Pro will only send alert notices to your primary WMed email address. It is possible to set up an Outlook rule to forward these messages to your smartphone via SMS/MMS (text messaging*).

First, it is important to know the format your wireless carrier uses to receive SMS/MMS messages.  Reference the table below to find your carrier’s format.  For example, if my phone number is 269-555-1212 on Verizon, I would forward to the address 2695551212@vzwpix.com.

If your carrier is not listed below, contact IT Support for assistance.

Provider

Email-to-SMS Address Format

AT&T

number@mms.att.net (MMS)

Boost Mobile

number@myboostmobile.com (MMS)

Cricket

number@mms.cricketwireless.net (MMS)

Sprint

number@pm.sprint.com (MMS)

T-Mobile

number@tmomail.net (SMS and MMS)

U.S. Cellular

number@mms.uscc.net( MMS)

Verizon,

Spectrum Mobile,

or Xfinity Mobile

number@vzwpix.com (MMS)

OR, if the above does not work, try:

number@vtxt.com (SMS)

Next, create the Outlook rule to forward Smart-Vue Pro emails.  This is most easily accomplished in Outlook Webmail (even if you use Desktop Outlook):

  1. Log in to Outlook Webmail at https://outlook.office.com/mail/options/mail/layout
  2. In the Settings window that appears, click Mail > Rules
  3. Click + Add new rule
  4. Give the rule a name, such as “Smart-Vue Pro Alerts to SMS
  5. Add a condition From = noreply@thermofisher.com
  6. Add an action Forward To = [your SMS address from table above]
  7. Save the rule to enable it. Smart-Vue Pro messages will now arrive as a SMS/MMS message on your phone.

* NOTE: SMS/MMS messaging and data rates may apply.  Check with your wireless carrier to ensure you understand any possible charges for receiving SMS/MMS messages.

Guidelines for posting information to the WMed Portal "Browse" feature

The WMed Portal is located at https://portal.med.wmich.edu

  1. Designated people from each program/department are allowed to place information regarding residents/business onto Browse.
  2. These people shall name and organize the directory structure in a way so that users can easily find the information they are looking for.
  3. They will keep all information up-to-date and be responsible for deleting outdated information.
  4. They will follow the rules in accordance with WMed Policies on electronic communications.
  5. Each department will be responsible for the content posted in their respective areas.
  6. Every effort should be made to keep documents free of typographical and grammatical errors.
  7. Corporate Communications, along with Information Technology, reserves the right to monitor and remove page content if they are in violation of these rules.
MailChimp is a marketing email service available at https://login.mailchimp.com/.
  • Access to MailChimp is managed by WMed IT.  If you believe you need access to this service or have trouble using your account, please submit an IT support ticket.
  • Please note that all users have the same access to MailChimp. All users see all content and audiences.  However some actions, such as exporting contacts, can only be performed by an Administrator account.
Archiving contacts

WMed is billed for MailChimp use based on the number of active contacts on our account. It is up to each user to manage their audience(s) and contacts.  If you don't plan to use an audience for more than one month, please archive the contacts in order to keep our total list manageable.  The list can be un-archived when needed.

Instructions for archiving are located here: https://mailchimp.com/help/archive-unarchive-contacts/

Guidelines for posting information to the public WMed internet site

  1. Please limit recreational pictures and information to the 'Resident Life' pages.
  2. NO Duplicate information! If another page on the internet site already has the information that you want to post, just link to that page rather than put it up there twice. This can be very confusing to visitors to see 2 or 3 similar pages with slightly different information. The sections about housing and recreation in Kalamazoo are the biggest offenders of this guideline.
  3. Only departmental (No Personal) email addresses should be posted on the internet site. This is to ensure that email is still received even if someone leaves the company. E-mail addresses will automatically be hidden, and a CAPTCHA is required to view them. This new feature is meant to reduce the amount of spam sent to these addresses.
  4. This site is the WMED Public image. All information must be accurate and up to date, please verify all links after submitting your final change. This will be randomly audited.
  5. Resident and Faculty profile pages have been standardized for a uniform look and for ease of posting.
    1. Please keep Faculty profiles to around 200 words. This should only include their professional and educational experience.
    2. Resident profiles should be kept to around 100 words. Information within should be limited to educational/professional experience, and things like “why I chose WMU WMed.”
    3. Pictures of Faculty should be the pictures provided by Laura Eller, Resident pictures can be obtained from Medical Education.
    4. Deletion of these profiles, or any page on the site, is absolutely permanent.

Anything that is deleted, if needed, will need to be re-created.
